A Good Stroke
Creative Commons License photo credit: spaceamoeba   Lamkin, one of the leading grip manufacturers, has just come out with a brand new product, the Lamkin 3GEN Performance Plus grip.  The new grips are fashioned from synthetic rubber that’s both soft and tacky.  The grips enhance comfort, stability and harmony in your relationship with the golf club.

The new grips come in fashion colors with a black, purple,  red on a white background and an all white grip.  These new grips are available through special order from Lamkin at www.lamkingrips.com or at your local golf club or golf center.

One of the most overlooked parts of the golf club are the grips.  Grips should be washed often and replaced once a year for serious players.  Grips also make a huge difference in the success of your golf shots.

The Lonesome Golf Channel

ABC13 Studio - Houston
Creative Commons License photo credit: eschipul   What is the Golf Channel going to do now that their “dream boy,” is in self imposed exile.  They have become so dependent on Tiger Woods that they are like a ship lost at sea, trying to figure out how to make up for Tiger’s absence.  Think about it, before the wreckage of Tiger’s SUV and his marriage, you couldn’t watch the Golf Channel for 5 minutes without seeing a clip of Woods in one of his patented fist pumps?

Woods’ absence should turn out to be good for the Golf Channel and it’s viewers.  It will teach everyone not to put all the eggs in one basket.  To be skeptical of a golfer that won’t acknowledge his fans.  Maybe now we can appreciate the rest of the field.

Tiger’s Apology?

Engagement Ring
Creative Commons License photo credit: dareppi   What do you think, was Tiger’s apology a performance or was it sincerely from the heart?

I say it was an orchestrated attempt to restore his image.  What purpose did it really serve, I ask?  Tiger is no dummy, he knows there’s millions of dollars riding on whether he is allowed to continue playing golf.  Will the fans that he so willingly betrayed, take him back in their favor?

His robot-like performance and stone cold lack of facial expressions made me realize that he was simply giving another con-job.  Once again, it was all about him.  Oh yes, he said he was sorry but what was he really saying?  I believe his career is over.  He’s let too many people down and now he has to pay the price.  Sad but true.

A Metal Chip Shot

Many times, depending on the lie, a metal wood is ideal to use for chip shots.  You can turn this into a very successful shot with plenty of practice.

1)  Be sure to grip way down in order to shorten the shaft length.  This will give you more control of the clubhead and shot.  2)  Since this tends to be a relatively tricky shot, you do not want a lot of body movement, therefore, you must keep your body extremely quiet.  3)  Use a putting stroke just as if you were using a putter with this shot.  4)  When making your swing be sure to keep the clubhead low to the ground.  Do not try to help the ball get airborne, just let the loft of the clubface do all the work.

Rough Success

Creative Commons License photo credit: Tom Purves   Most players, when playing from greenside rough, try to put spin on the ball to help control or stop the shot once it lands on the green.  The problem is that it’s very difficult to know exactly how much spin will actually be on the ball.  The primary factor that determines the amount of spin is how deep the ball is in the grass.  When contact is made, if there is too much grass between the clubface and the ball, the shot will come out hot.

Try to play this shot as if you were in a sand trap.  Open your stance and with an open clubface, make a more upright swing.  You will get plenty of height and the ball should land softly on the green.

Clogged Grooves

Titleist AP2 Forged
Creative Commons License photo credit: andrea.pacelli   One of the biggest faults with most golfers is that they play with dirty grooves.  The very same individuals will complain that they cannot get any backspin on their golf shots.  Keeping your grooves clean is especially important during practice.

Every player should attach a towel on their golf bag when they play.  Soak the bottom half with water and leave the top half dry.  After every shot you can clean the clubface with the lower wet half of the towel and dry with the dry upper-half.

It won’t take long to figure out how helpful to your game clean grooves can actually be.  It is also a good idea to clean the face of your metal woods.  Waxing your clubs with car wax is an excellent way to make cleaning them easier.

“Jack, I want to thank you for giving me all of those exiting moments throughout your long career.  For being such a great representative of the game throughout your career and for just being a genuinely nice guy.  At first I was ticked at you for challenging the ‘king,’ Arnold Palmer but you made a true believer out of me.  Thanks again, for all the memories !

What would you say to Nicklaus, we’d like to hear your comments ?
